SOCIAL AND SUPPORT GROUPS
A variety of social and support groups, official programs of The Center and more informal groups alike, use the variety of meeting spaces at The Center to bring together like-minded individuals of every gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and interest throughout the month. Use the list below to find the perfect group to join and make new friends for life.
R.U.1.2. Youth Group
Providing safe, supportive and affirming space for LGBTQ youth and their allies, ages 13-24, is the goal of R.U.1.2. The members of this group build friendships and explore self-expression through weekly activities, discussion groups and social gatherings. R.U.1.2. provides youth with the support and skills to tackle life challenges, such as HIV prevention, coming out issues and bullying. Thursdays, 6-7 pm. Youth Activity Night
As the name of this group suggests, Youth Activity Night is all about…activities! Join us for a variety of games, art projects, movie nights, open mic performances, skits, group projects and more. This group is open to youth, ages 13-24. Tuesdays, 6-7 pm.
17-24
17-24 is a weekly discussion and support group that provides safe space for LGBTQ youth and their allies, ages 17-24. The group provides an opportunity for young adults to meet their peers in a drug- and alcohol-free space, discuss current events and trends in the overall LGBTQ and global communities, and share personal experiences on topics of interest. Thursdays, 7-8 pm.
G-Men
A social networking group for men, non-age specific, G-Men hold movie nights, discussions, potlucks and more. Meetings are held Friday evenings, 7-8 p.m. at The Center.
Gay Men’s Empowerment Group
The Gay Men’s Empowerment Group is designed to promote self-discovery through personal exploration in a safe, informal environment. We believe being gay is a gift. We also believe that as we understand that gift, not only do we benefit ourselves but we have an obligation to share that gift with the whole human community. This group is open to all 21 and over who identify as gay or bi and male. Wednesdays, 6-7 pm.
L-Group
The L-Group is a non-age specific social group for women. The group goes on outings, has discussions and holds movie nights, game nights, poker nights and more. Meetings are held Fridays, 7-8 p.m. at The Center. Sign up for the weekly L-Group Newsletter by e-mailing cincin1958@earthlink.net.
Trans.lation
Built upon the concept of celebrating people of all gender identities and expressions, Trans.lation provides support and community-building opportunities for transgender people and their loved ones of all ages. The Center has long seen gaps in services for the Southern Nevada transgender community. Trans.lation was developed in response to this pressing need and continues to provide much-needed support and visibility to the transgender and gender non-conforming members of our community. Fridays, 5:30-6:30 pm.
Out of the (Gender) Box
Out of the (Gender) Box is a bi-weekly discussion group that provides safe space for folks who identify outside of (or don’t quite fit into) the ‘male’ and ‘female’ boxes assigned to us by society. Discussion topics focus on the many different ways in which gender impacts and shapes our lives and what it is like to exist as individuals and a community that refuse to be confined to boxes that we didn’t create. People of all gender identities and expressions are welcome to attend.
Senior Social Connection
This supportive group for gay seniors holds meetings on the second Sunday of each month at The Center, 2 p.m. Activities often include pot luck dinners and group discussions.
Vegas Mpowerment Project
Vegas MPowerment Project enriches and strengthens 20-29 year old gay/bisexual men's pride about who they are and encourages them to explore and celebrate their sexuality by not just focusing on condom use but by including a wide variety of safer sex behaviors. The Vegas MPowerment Project creates settings where young men can express their identities with each other, find support, and band together to take action on issues of importance to them. Wise Womyn
Every Wednesday, noon-1 p.m., this discussion group for mature lesbians meets at The Center.
